Spare Change

She shuffles her feet slowly
and comes upon you quiet

spare change...
mister, spare change.

One by one they all shake their heads no
some don't even let her finish
so on she goes

spare change...
mam, spare change.

Her belly is out
yet her figure is small
which lets me know this woman is
trying to survive enough for two humans

spare change...
sir, spare change.

Seeing how I'm the last in line
in her efforts to find someone kind
I search my pockets looking for...

spare change.

When she gets to me
in her tired, hopeless blue eyes I'm certain
she can see into my heart
and believes that I will come through.

Now...I wish I could say
that I came to her rescue in some glorious way
for this is my story and I could always end up the hero
if I chose too.

But in TRUTH...

in TRUTH the coins were inconviently buried in my pockets.

So I said "no"
and she went off to
nowhere to go.

I watch her silhoette until it's out of my sight
and soon I can't shake the thought that I just rejected Jesus
and all He asked of me was for...

spare change.
