Luvbug's Hair

My daughter and her crazy hair
I love her wild and beautiful
crazy hair...
but last night she straightened it
and I feel blue.
Her Mom says "don't worry...it's something all little
girls do."
But I can't get it out of my mind
so on our walk to school I ask her
"why do you want to change the way God made you?"
She says, "daddy, it's just that no other girls at school have the same kind
of hair as I do."
And so it begins
at just 6 my little girl is feeling the pressure
of trying to fit in.
We walk for a while...then she speaks again
"I'll wash it out tonight if that's what you want."
I was elated!!!
But only for a minute...then it becomes clear
she was trading her joy to ease my fear.
"Is that what YOU want to do?"
she looked up at me "well, I kinda' like it."
"Then sweetheart if YOU like it then I like it too!"
And with a big smile, hug and a kiss
she went on her way....full of bliss.
And as a father, once again I've come to realize
it's important to little girls....
the things that daddy's say

......but maybe she'll get really dirty and have to wash it anyway:)!.......
